I was a fan of both the console and mobile version of injustice that I almost played it more than mortal kombat but when you can be joker and see the clash portion of the console and the supermoves on both console and mobile what's not to love? Well after an extra day or two I finally got to try out Injustice 2 mobile and well in its current state it's just meh to be honest. Yes there is a great portion of characters in here with tons more to come, if you ever wanted to see so much IAP (in app purchases) in your face this is it and not to mention a new way to say screw you to fans. So where to begin or as Scarecrow says "let's go through this nightmare together"
Graphics look amazing though not as bright as the first one on mobile and it lags here and there but it's playable on my Moto G4 Play and yes I have 3 mobile games that are free to play which are MKX, Injustice and Injustice 2 which MKX taking most of my time mostly cause I work a lot so hey my breaks are playing mobile. Gameplay is the bread and butter and it works better than one but takes a bit to get use to with it more on the Marvel Contest Of Champions with a few extra things like while dashing back you can fire projectiles at foes. I will say some moves are reused ones like The Flash's speed kicks so guess call it 2.0 hey remember that update fiasco (we still do).
Speaking of flash that brings the rollercoaster downward with challenges in the sequel. Gone are the ladders and say hello to every Friday through Sunday (maybe) daily ladders of easy, hard and nightmare though I only seen videos of the challenge and I can't access it due to I'm not level 10 with my profile and won't be because you only level up your account daily and I'm 8 and well don't expect to speed through this due to now all cards are using one energy system. The challenge only grants you a shard of the character and not THE character and it takes 160 of them to complete it so yea good luck. Here's the kicker: you have a threat score based on how strong your character/team is and I seen anywhere to 1,037 to 40,000 so just guess where I'm headed next...
"Hey kids wanna get a boost on the game well you can buy suicide squad Harley for just 45$ and it comes with 2,000 gems"
Gems are the premium currency to this and while the people at NR said the game won't be a paywall I can only hit the wall going so fast you know? OK let us get IAP in a game that is one: server based (what could go wrong right?) And two one that just launched. Also what is stopping NR from an update that erases your whole game (update this has been happening already from sources at the community website) now NR said their reason to going server based was to stop hackers and well from hacker videos up on YouTube that went well I see.
Also included is the story through streaming like PS Now though the story is free it's only the first chapter but good luck playing it as it crashes frequently when skipping cutscenes I watched the first 15 minutes of it on YouTube and also the Robin part is hard as hell. Though I give props to NR on this being added, it needs work as well as the game itself. Arena is not that great either but seems easier to rank up for better rewards like in factions compared to the first injustice MP headache. Gems grant you a way to open hero chest which is 150 gems but I will say you earn them really fast when first playing then the grind happens and it's more a snail's pace or slug if you prefer.
Overall this needs work and is headed to a rocky start that even batman won't be able to save but if it gets all the bugs and server issues out the way hell maybe even slightly playable offline I can say this might have some longevity like the other NR mobile games but we will see in the coming weeks and months.
Score: 5 out of 10
Pros: Graphics look smooth
Gameplay can be fun while challenging
Scarecrow looks awesome
Cons: Getting characters require luck
Server needs work as it's slow
IAP overload
Afterthought: In this little area I'm going to cover what needs to be done to make this better and I'm starting with the campaign and resource battles need to be offline playable and even doing operations. People won't get ahead or even a foot out the door in the long haul with the little they can play as it is. Leave the challenges, daily reward and others online but people should be able to enjoy this game offline like the previous games they have done and MKX started online only as well at the start (or just had really long load times one of the two).
Next energy system changes and earning exp for your account needs to be redone. You only earn XP for your account from daily missions and you only level up maybe once or twice at least after level 6 and fights should net you XP even if very little. The energy system needs to be lowered when doing missions from 6 to 3 and 12 to 6 for regular and heroic missions. You have little energy in this game and yes you earn 30 on level up and 30 on daily mission but the game is grind heavy as it is and if not those getting changed then the length of earning back energy needs to be down to 2:00 per point instead of 10:00. I like the game a bit but this game won't go nowhere to fans without heavy cash or whales throwing down money. I'm not against paying into a game you like on mobile but the way they did this is a slap in the face and I consider MKX mobile a better option and yea I buy the "early access" character cards every now and then because mostly I grew up on Mortal Kombat but I never shelled out money for Injustice or WWE Immortals so it seems Injustice 2 was made with IAP first before gameplay. I will say it isn't first in horrible IAP like Contest Of Champions but as it sits now it comes pretty damn close to it. The RNG aspect or luck you get getting characters is good unlike COC because I have 3 gold characters and COC the luck is terrible. So NR can you work with us fans please?
