Time to mix drinks and change lives is how it starts and it holds up to that point and never lets go for Va-11 Hall-A (pronounced Valhalla) is one of the Vita's strongest novel games in a long time since anything Telltale has put out or Persona 4 Golden because in a rarity you feel like you are the character and Wolfgame has done just that. Set in Neo San Francisco you are Jill and you are a bartender who fixes characters their drinks and talks and listens to the clients life stories one character for instance acts like Jim Sterling and the story never lets up because it's also Jill's story but it's not one you can or will easily learn till the final scene and it offers multiple playthroughs to really get an understanding on it. Now I will say if you played Read Only Memories (another fantastic novel game) some words or even a character may be familiar which is a nice treat since it sort of acts like a spin off of a show that keeps a few details but still makes it their own and it gets easier to understand how to play once you get how it works but I will say you won't get the good ending without a walk through due to a hidden item that I never knew was there until I read the forums so kudos to the developer on that one.
Now how the gameplay works is after some talking they ask for a drink and you find the name in the directory to see how to make it and if needed big you just add the ingredients to the drink again for instance 6 Adelhyde becomes 12 and so forth. Drinks requiring to be mixed are made quickly while blended requires more waiting and rocks is ice and age is time which is pretty simplistic once you pick up on it. That is pretty much the gameplay minus a few "mini games" but overall nothing too hard to handle overall and being focused requires you buying the wanted item at a shop or you won't know what the clients won't unless you have a good memory. You have bills to be paid and lights to keep on so don't go on a shopping spree and save your money. You have a score that is rounded up after the shift and how much you get depends on how good the service was (i.e. Don't mess up orders) so always go for the flawless service bonus.
Music is chiptune and is really good in the game and you have a music player if you want to listen to the music of the game and chill. Before the start of the work shift you can look at quick stories from the blogs or Augmented Eye though it's never anything heavy story related. This is one of the best novels I came across and glad it found the way to the vita and recommend this title highly for fans of novels or just a fun pick up and play game that isn't to heavy on the battery.
