Why kill yourself today when you can masturbate tomorrow? That's the first line in the deep story that never lets go of the grip it gets when hitting New Game. A story about depression is haunting but when you feel like part of you is THAT character because this is real or can be. You are Evan Winter a gamer who hates everything even himself who has a job that he feels like is going no where.
There is no background music or happy thoughts on this dark story and you can't play in one sitting because it's so depressing but in a good(?) way since the writing is just so good and the narration is kinda like Mr Robot but this came out on steam last year but I just played this on vita so you can kinda see this example of you watch it. The developer. Will O' Neill has stated it was I believe 15 years of his life in this game and we all can kinda relate to certain parts of Actual Sunlight that it can be frightening. Evan has a mental illness that we know, he started a novel but stopped and joined a gym that he never goes to and no woman in his life but his mom. He drinks at home and has no social life.
There is no multiple endings, different pathways, no happiness that comes from this dark tale. Everything is interactive which is the way to get trophies if you are into collecting them. It's not an incredibly long tale but it's deep and I believe created with RPG Maker engine which I could be wrong but if so then it does a great job with it. The art work that is there is very well done but you won't see much of it but it's drawn so well.
Final thoughts: Will O Neill has crafted a dark, twisted and depressing story about Evan who feels like his life is going no where and who is in a strong word a prick but he has a reason to be and by the end of the tale you feel sorry for him but it's the beginning that hits the hardest with a letter from Will himself. Novel lovers or indie lovers need this tale on their Vita or Steam where ever you can get it just get it. It's something done very well and thought provoking.
