In December 2009 a game from Aksys came out and no one knew how big it would be but low and behold the first of the trilogy Zero Escape is now on vita after a long long wait. So what's new and how does it compare to the DS version?
The game loads up with your character Junpei locked in a room with a puzzle to solve to leave the room like in the Saw movies but less blood. After the puzzle is solved you find out you're on a ship and with 8 other characters including one you know named June and the story gets to twist and turn you like a rollercoaster but that is the enjoyment of the series is that nothing is what it seems and no one can be trusted.
So what's new in the new version? Well first you can switch between the current style like how VLR (Virtue's Last Reward) is and how the original 999 was. Second is when you are in the current version the other characters have movements most times when talking and the artwork looks amazing. Now I loved Zero Time (3rd of the trilogy) but the robotic movements just didn't fit it plus puzzles seemed easier minus the one card puzzle near the end, so I can say puzzles require a lot more thinking this go around due to you finding root numbers on most puzzles with the help of a calculator Zero gives you.
The voice acting is good along with the music and both set the mood though Zero sounds too muffled at times but that's me just being picky. Load times are quick and I never had any issues while playing the game. Now I know the game is called The Nonary Games but I'm covering 999 (Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors) for the game because this is the one that sets up everything but VLR is just has good if not better so you should definitely buy The Nonary Games if you like visual novels and puzzles.
Score 9 out of 10
