A name like Frozen Synapse who has won multiple awards needs no introduction so how is the new version Prime from Double Eleven well read along.
The original made by Mode7 Games was just awesome...from what I heard cause I never played it, but watched videos and listened to the awesome soundtrack. The gameplay is the same but with a new graphics system, instead of VR red and green guys you are blue facing off against red guys and both in suits that make it seem like a future laser tag. In the story you play Tactics (funny since that was the previous title name before Prime), and you are facing off against Enyo:nomad troops with a variety of missions. There is also other modes like Skirmish with a quick version or you can set up a created one, tutorials to get you up to teach you how to play and multiplayer modes with a few modes within it.
You have a variety of troops at your disposal mostly machine gunners and shotgunners with snipers and grenadiers coming later in story. The gameplay is mathematical with how you place and how you aim and with either visible or invisible type, also makes it challenging. The levels are small and are destructible and the firefights can get crazy with each 15 second turn you prime. Luckily you can still see what could happen but not always certain during your turn before priming your turn.
There's a lot of strategy involved with the units like the sniper has great range and is better used in the back or shotgunners are good against machine gunners but can't shoot far so better to get close. Grenadier and rockets are good but you have to plan ahead since they can kill the enemy as well as your own team if members get too close. The story is well done and the portrait of their characters is neat to see and one reminds me of MGS PS1 Snake a bit and the overview map and backstory of people, areas and events are cool to read and see.
Verdict: From what I heard, this is the original PC and iPad version with updated graphics but I never played so I don't know but even if it is, well on the go FS with new graphics is a blast to play. For first timers like myself the game reminds me of the PC classics from the 90's but with a new twist for this generation and multiplayer is great and the taking turns aspect is great and you don't have to sit and play a full game (which could be long) but mic support is fun for when you do play with friends or strangers and tell them how you owned them.
Score 10 out of 10
