Well NepNep and the other CPUs have been captured by a group known as CFW a part of ASIC(Arfoire Syndicate Of International Crime)who has a purpose is to bring Arfoire to Gamindustri to destroy it and everyone on it. You play as Neptunia's sister NepGear along with Compa and IF but unlock characters as you go along which will be a lot but not spoiling it but will say you will play as the CPUs later. This is a different dimension than the previous entry as Compa and IF are friends and have been since they were kids while Re:Birth 1 had them just meeting so think of it as a whole new story and don't worry about 1 if you never played it but just got 2 (though play it since it's great).
Everything is the same as the first with either noticeable improvements or just good touches to the formula. One of the best is a 4 party team while one was just 3 and it makes it great with more combos to pull off, you can easily get hundreds of hits in before the enemy gets it's turn. Other improvements is new plans like menu voices, a combo that you can skip battles if you hit them for a symbol gain and lots of endings. While one just had 2 endings Re:Birth 2 has 9 endings so lots of NG+ to play if you want to see them all. The CPU candidates take center stage Uni, NepGear, Rom and Ram and later on when you gain their EX Drive ultimate move, they will be your most used. EX Drives are special moves that you can do after the EX bar levels up to what it needs to be and you have 4 bars to raise and you can also do skills that won't take away the bar but does require a certain EXE Drive number.
Now I gotta mention some things that is head scratching: even though dungeons are named different some from one are just that the same. Some humor has gone and it tries to be more serious but that's mostly due to Neptunia taking a backseat and the sisters are of a different style and that's all of my gripes which is very minimal. A very neat addition is a new mode called Stella's Dungeon which if you play Final Fantasy 8 on PC you noticed a chocobo minigame that worked with Final Fantasy 8 and this works like that in a sense. Items that Stella finds in dungeons you keep minus her items that she uses for the dungeons. Each floor takes a certain game time to complete which can be short to about 2 hours long so it's really two games in one. The one thing that's missing from one is finding dungeons by using search or just finding the item that unlocks the plan but there is still a lot of dungeons plus the colosseum that returns. About endings: there are some that require shares to be up a certain percent while others are based on lily rank which is a partnered up based on how frequent you fight together which can also unlock skill moves. There's a lot of ways to play the game with the Remake system you can add stronger enemies to something new which is changing the dungeon, changing the enemies to whole ones some tougher or just new versions of them.
Re:Birth 2 is a better game in most ways and will require a long time playing to fully complete and gain all the extra characters and endings and plus getting characters to level 99. Humor might have taken a backseat with a more serious tone but the combat is just as fast paced and fun as it has been and now even better with four members which means more combos and strategy involved well until you get overpowered but it's another great game that Idea Factory,Compile Heart and Felistella have made again and it's definitely a purchase JRPG fans shouldn't miss out on.
Score 8.5 out of 10
