Well a new age is here at last....and complete in it's full entirety which most will be glad after the cliffhanger that was the ending to Act 1. The story is told very well between the two characters Shay and Vella and the cast is top notch along with the what seems like painted artwork style graphics and awesome soundtrack. Now we all know the story surrounding the game that got a successful funding though was split in two games so to speak but now fully released and a fully awesome point and click style adventure game like Monkey Island and other classics.
Well length on act 1 story wise, Vella's is longer and Shay's is on the short side but to me more humor is added though humor is all over the game and really shines with Jack Black's character Harm'ny Lightbeard and who ever voiced the Tree. Now with point and click games comes the puzzles and this game doesn't disappoint and are mostly easy with a few head scratches here and there but act 2 really boggles the mind but does so in an incredible style. Shay's story mostly takes place in space and the airship while Vella's tend to do with more traveling and how everything ties together at the end is the story's best part and I haven't seen this strong a story since TellTale games or the great Grim Fandango.
Controls take some getting use to but mostly in movement and that item bar. Some things are timed and trying to maneuver and not hit the bottom screen can be tough. Also had a few issues with the cursor wanting to do its own thing and mess me up a few times though not a big deal just annoying at times. While not talking to everyone, you will be exploring a big world and doing puzzles that as noted were pretty easy until act 2 but if there's a puzzle I liked it was the beginning of Shay's story and it's sets the tone of the story while having some good conversation between Shay and mom that Elijah Wood and Jennifer Hale pull off perfectly. Music is great in the game and I wish it had a music box option just to listen to as most times I didn't even play the game just listened for awhile.
Act 2 is getting flack from certain sites who one I know of isn't even a gaming site but says act 2's puzzles are really hard. Can I just say I'm glad the challenge was where it was at? Listen if a game is too hard for you then either find a new genre or a different game. Now that I said that, yes I hated a few puzzles but once you figure it out then it's more of a head slap saying "why didn't I think of that?" The game's difficulty is perfect and the story is just great and I look forward to replaying this game in the future.
Should point and click fans get this? Absolutely and this is a worth gem and belongs next to the other classics and the voice work and music alone should get this game some awards not to mention the graphic style. This is a great game from Double Fine and I can't wait to see more from them.
