Ok I loved the last Neptunia game because it crossed paths with my go to genre SRPG. Now they crossed paths with my favorite game Dynasty Warriors and it does an awesome job of it as well. For one there's not a lot of characters which is good and bad but that's mostly due to getting use to having 20+ characters in most Neptunia games. Story is not as long either so you get to the action quick but the humor is still there and voice acting is still great.
Gameplay consist of doing missions and there's 3 types: character set, red tag missions that makes enemy types unavailable to see before selecting and mission goals and lastly CPU/CPU candidates only. There is also two extra modes one being a tower type that gets you something special if completed and a one on one like mode. Medals are collected during levels and once you collect enough per monster, you get a weapon or HP upgrade etc. The HDD returns but can only be used for a certain length before it goes away though you will get it a lot later in game.
The action can get hectic real quick but it's amazing to see how many enemies can be on screen and not deal with slowdown of any kind. There's a wide variety of enemy types from the series and some new ones appear as well to keep it fresh. In the game we do have two new characters named Famitsu and Dengekiko which if you are good with game press then you will instantly pick those up. Speaking of them, once you gain a certain amount of getting attacked and etc. you get greeted with a "news" update of that character. If you keep losing health you lose particles of clothing which is weird but the cast definitely pokes fun at IF for this feature though later you can unlock unbreakable gear.
The levels seem repetitive though it fits the game and aren't very wide which means a lot of close up fighting and less area to run away from enemies. The game length for story is decent but to get everything unlocked will require double the amount which means heavy replayability which is always a good thing. There is a few story snippets called Story Watch which can unlock character specific mission and adds more to the story.
Final thoughts: a crazy mashup of Neptunia and DW is one I didn't think of happening but did and is done excellent though some later missions drag on too much, it's still enjoyable. Mission layout is neat and a good addition to the DW style while still being true to the game series.
So maybe a straight up fighting game will be next or a building simulator? Possibilities are endless for Nep and the gang.
