Dungeon Traveling RPGs are frequent on Vita so much that I'm beginning to think Persona Q might happen like I predicted Final Fantasy musical game would on mobile after two happened to come back to back. Well thing about Dungeon RPGs is that some just copy and paste certain aspects of their game while adding small aspects so they can call it new.
Dungeon Travelers 2 though takes the formula and stretches it out and adds their spin to it which is a pretty big one. You are Fried a Libra which is a class that seals the monsters and you can use them as certain skills even boss monsters but not like you think. Each monster class has a skill Chant speed down for you magic classes or HP up so no you can't use monster skills but these are very helpful. There is a handful of classes and each one after a certain level can rank up in that class and at another level rank up again but this requires multiple playthroughs if you want to try them all.
The game starts pretty self-explanatory but after awhile it opens up and offers tons of sidequest and extra areas. It can be a tough game and it really is but the tutorials are really good at telling you how to play the game and to the point but with a little humor thrown in. Now let's get it out the way: yes the game is a little adult but it has been toned down but the game isn't done in a tasteless way and honestly name a JRPG that was "normal" in the way of characters. Now inventory is a different matter with you only being able to hold a very limited supply of items but luckily there's a storage that holds more than enough items for you located at the Library.
Libra Book holds located at the Library holds the info for the enemies you face and the Self Control Room is your way of extracting the monsters you sealed in the book to be used as skills or sealbook. Each party member gets one but Fried gets a grand sealbook. Each member not including Fried when leveled up has a skill point which goes to whatever class and ability they want called Skill Custom. A neat thing done is when in dungeons you may cross paths with a person selling equipment or food. Finding the food vendor can definitely make a bad situation better if about to lose and some characters early on can run out of magic points fairly quickly. In dungeons, traps are frequent and are anything from poison to freeze so prepare items before setting out.
Final thoughts: This is a very challenging game for a couple different reasons but both good and is actually newcomer friendly with a lot of short but helpful tutorials. DLC also just came out with a lot of extra characters so if you like the game I would say get it for the combinations you can do. There is a lot of adult-ish images but it won't ruin the game at all. If you like jrpgs or classic dungeon exploration games with a lot of story, this is a great game worth getting and I hope to see more from Aquaplus.
