In Japan a series of visual novel games have been quite popular with males and females called otome and harem also in the App Store as visual novels for both genders have a good populated amount....if you are into those. I'm not really has I rather play than read amounts of text for hours, but Idea Factory has something neat in a title called Amnesia:Memories
Story: you have no name besides what you name your nameless protagonist. You wake up to see a spirit named Orion who has in a way crashed into you. You have no memories of your past so everyone is a stranger. You have worlds you pick at the start and each one is very different and offers multiple playthroughs to complete everything. The characters you meet may be your boyfriend, childhood friend or worse an enemy but your choices determine that. For a visual novel this has a lot of story than most I seen plus with the replayability it's even bigger afterwards.
Gameplay: this is more than selecting choices which makes Amnesia stand out more. You have parameters that show you how you are doing which helps to see what ending you could get so check frequently. What breaks the game up is 2 minigames: a attack version of paper rock scissors and an air hockey game which I am far better at than the other. Everything else is pretty much self explanatory but look at the instruction book to know what buttons do what like how to save for instance.
Visuals and sound : to me the best part. Hand drawn characters, vibrant backgrounds with multi coloring make this really neat to see. The backgrounds may be the way they are so more focus with the characters is shown but to me both are shown equally. Voices are all Japanese which would be great to have a choice of English as well but in it works out really good. Music is smooth and tranquil and stays on beat so nothing overboard to break up the story. Story is often shown through images which can be reviewed in the gallery and most are voiced.
Presentation and final thoughts: everything is in a neat package but it does in a way through you in the lion's den without instructions but once you learn the flow, it's all easy to master. Loading is quick and starting the game won't take long at all. Will this get me to do more of otome and harem visual novels? No...but they did do something neat here that works really well and may attract fans of that visual novel style. In the end I still prefer my JRPG'S, P&C and action games but I think everyone should check this out. It's on Vita, Steam and iOS. iOS does have a free version for the first chapter so go try it out. What do you have to lose....well your protagonist lost a lot but you haven't...have you?
