Vita launched with a pretty great line up and one to make it great was the highly spoken Persona 4 Golden which is beefed up version of the PS2 classic. Included in the Vita was more endings, more story and just more everything. So how does it stack it up on Vita?
Story: You are a highschool transfer student located in the peaceful town of Inaba....or so you think. With heavy fog appearing and murders on the rise it's up to a ragtag team of highschool students that can go through a TV thanks to The Midnight Channel that shows a victim the team has to rescue from the victim's mind. A great cast makes this the best Persona yet with a zany character who could pose as the mascot named Teddie who helps out the team and showers them with bear puns.
Twist and turns keeps the story moving with a break here and there of a side arc full of humor or helping out a friend. Story is huge and maybe the biggest out of all the others yet.
Gameplay: There is alot to do in Inaba but there is also a vita exclusive town with even more to do so there is always something to do in the game even when it's raining. The game makes me want to live in Inaba because of all the things you can do from side jobs like tutoring or working at the hospital to fishing. Social links also return and come full force and may require more than one playthrough to get them all, but thanks to how the game is, multiple playthroughs are important.
Quest are done differently this time with no due date so you can take your time but with everything to do that may be hard. You can also read books to help boost your stats of education, courage and charm but also boost how many bugs you catch for fishing or unlocks speed reading to blaze through books faster than nomal.
Graphics and sound: Golden gets a boost to graphics with added detail to everything from persona models to the models themselves. Running through rain or walking through sunshine couldn't look better with great detail added and better yet pocket size. Sound though is the highlight of the masterpiece. From the Junes tune to the battle songs the game will get you singing if not humming the tunes.
I never played the PS2 version but Vita has a TV option and you can listen to all the songs minus the Junes tune sadly but it is in the new game Persona 4: Dancing All Night so there is that.
Presentation and final thoughts: The bright menu style is easy to navigate and the brightness seems to be the theme of 4 from 3's dark and gloomy theme. You can access your TV options by double tapping the screen to acess the overlay. If you played 3 then 4 will be the same but a few changes like the after battle has cards lined up instead of moving them all around plus has options of selecting more than one. If selected all, it unlocks a sweep which grants 2 instead of just 1.
So should you get this game if you haven't already? Short answer hell yes. Long answer: do you like rpgs? Do you like some simulation and choices in your rpgs? If so then get this. Long term fans snatched this awhile back but this is for new Vita owners and for Persona Dancing All Night hype train. The game will last you months if not years of fun to be had in this classic title.
Score: 10 Out Of 10
