Suikoden series has been a known franchise spanning mostly on Playstation with one on DS and have been known for their story (or lack of. Yes you Suikoden 4) but nothing compares to Suikoden 2 though FFT comes close. Most people payed an arm and leg through ebay or amazon for this game. Not too sure but I think Suikoden 1&2 was on PSP as a 2 game special butit never hit the U.S. Well here is my reviewon why it's so good
Twist and turns and poltics are not to common in games back on PS1 with the few rpgs to do it were Final Fantasy, it wasn't a strong tale that you would be expecting. Until Suikoden series came that is with the story of war, death, treason and having more people than you can manage to form a party. Suikoden 1 set the bar but Suikoden 2 broke it to peices and then some. Your character who is with a foster family and you see him grow up and go to war is just the start of the never stopping story. War breaks out and you have to escape and in process get captured by a familar face who you end up working with.
Gameplay is mostly the same but a few changes like portraits were more anime style and graphics slightly sharper. Everything else is the same with 108 stars of destiny, unite attacks and 6 member party system. Also a huge change to me is the tactics style war sessions over the rock, paper, scissors of the first with now more choices for battling and almost seems like another game. Your castle gaining and watching it grow is also back but seems like forever till you get one since 1 was pretty quick into it because it was short overall. Story is deeper though it seems only for the major characters while others are just a shoe in for party slots, the way you get them is better.
Music is just as good with its irish music style in some towns to the heavy drums in battle. Your save from 1 is needed to get all 108 stars which is a neat thing hardly done in that time and 4 was the last to do it since Suikoden Tactics was also in stor with 4.
Overall this is a great if not the best rpg you can pick up on PS1 with the vita. Three has been just recently released on PSN for PS3 which is another great one with a different style of story that you should try.
So pick this gem up and get the first while your at it....you kinda need it also.
