Shooters are constant on Vita thanks to Ps1 classics, PSP ports and the libary of the genre from the Vita itself. One born on the now gone PS Mobile was Aqua Kitty. An arcade shoot em up with a game about what else...cats. The DX version, which was a title popular on Gameboy Color games is on the Vita and fans of the genre should pay attention.
First the visuals. A slick HD pixel filled game s what you will get and loving this is all you need to do. From the bullet fire, small details in the backgrounds to what else...explosions. The small cats which you need to save look purrrfect in their cute fuzzy pixel ways. The bomb enemies exploding after being shot is so bright and beautiful to look at (though later levels you will hate them).
The gameplay consist of you plowing down enemies and of course bosses while saving your worker cats from being taken to the skies where you lose them and after the mission are featured on the back of a milk carton. Levels start off painfully easy but can go straight to a insane later on where you stratgey to handle the basic enemies from the millions of bullets flying at you. Enemies are in good variety as well from pods to jumping creatures who shoot at you alot and bosses are a in league of their own.
Levels come in a set of quite a few in 4 areas with each one ending in a boss fight. You do have an endless mode so if you beat the game, you can see how far you get. There is two modes so more replay value for you and both quite different as well. Easy/normal is the standard while Arcade is the harder play till you run out of lives and no endless mode included to that portion but your ship gets upgrades for the harder levels.
If you like Danmaku or Bullet Hell shooters this is it but only the later levels but this does have a cute theme surrounded by destruction so there is that. I never played the original but DX has more to keep you busy and lots of trophies to unlock and earning them will take quite a bit but hey it's cats and explosions what's not to love?
Score 8.5
Pros: Cat
Explosions
Great retro graphics with a moderen touch
Endless mode
Cons: over too quick but that is a minor issue to this game.
