Superbot Entertainment made a game made for the PS fans both new and old and it pays off but with a few issues holding it back.
Graphics: well this is a beauty to look at not just for the characters but the backgrounds that always change during the fight. The effects from blurring to explosions just shine and makes you enjoy this gem of a game. Some characters look awesome to pretty decent but never bad and the vita isn't as powerful as the ps3 of course but hey this looks and plays great.
Sound: another shining spot in this game from quotes from characters to theme music from the games. This is a short and sweet review of the music portion.
Presentation: The problems rise here in this category. First the vita menu took a hit with some blurriness and menu backgrounds just don't seem as fluid as the PS3 version so minor on that. The biggest part is arcade mode which you can't rewatch beginning, the face-off or ending movies anytime you want to like most fighting games. Another big letdown is the picture beginning and ending since it's just that a picture and no video. There is speaking but a video would have been better.
With that out of the way there is a lot of unlockables with icons, backgrounds, costumes, minions and intro/outros for fights.
Gameplay: the heart of the game and the area with the most meat. It's a very carbon copy clone of super smash brothers with a few things done better and it's just as fun. A big flaw is that there's no Spyro, Tomba Crash which is the PS icon of the PS1 era. Modes are the story which is the basic fighter mode and then there's trial which you can go through a tutorial or specific character missions through 3 difficulties. Your characters gain rank which after each increase unlock things as mentioned before which makes the game last. Multiplayer is also there though haven't touched it yet. Another small problem is when setting up the character options your minions (which really don't do anything) can't be set with characters, only the one you are using.
Final verdict: great gameplay with minor issues holding it back from greatness, there is still fun to be had with single player and multiplayer (for those who like online portions).
