Trails In The Sky First Chapter was an RPG about stor first combat second with all the elements a strong story needs. The ending was a cliffhanger no American fans would see happen till October 28th 2015 when the sequel arrived to finish what started. The game is huge and takes up 2 UMDs digitaly and has more words than Lord Of The Rings. It picks up RIGHT where FC ended and the hunt for Joshua begins and the pacing doesn't slow down well story wise.
It takes awhile for the game to go full throttle but when it does, the fun begins as well as the areas you will visit. Most are recycled (I seen people bitch about thisand do they not play or read direct sequels)? There are some new areas or areas that weren't in the first that you can visit now my favorite is Bose and Ruan. As you notice in the game, Estelle's new duds isn't the only thing new in this chapter. Orbments also got an upgrade and can show off stronger skills but also new is chain craft. 2 or more characters can engage the same enemy and let loose though I never got it great enough that I kept using it.
Traveling is a huge part of the game and you either love it or hate it but hey how else will you keep getting items to fish or cook with? You will face a number or enemies that log into your Monster Guide once they are destroyed with what items they drop as well for food/item hunting. You also have your Bracer Guide which gives you tips and shows you the orbment magic and how to make them as well as alot more. Quest are written down for easy access as well as clues you come across. This game will make you play through it more than once thanks to the choice in the first chapter and the member you did not select won't join till much later in the game. The way the battles are paced at is pretty fun as well like arts needing to be charged but also the little icons beside the characters's picture like critical or CP heal so long fights need planning. If an enemy has a critical coming up you can activate your S-attack and get it instead.
You always get a chance to prepare and more sidequest after each chapter and some aren't always on a board so it pays off to talk to everybody. Trails is a great game that certainly holds even with today's RPGs and it holds up quite nice on the Vita. Does it belong up there with games like Chrono Trigger or Suikoden 2? Well yes it does and you should play these games if you haven't but be prepared for story if the battles are more your thing.
Score 10 out of 10
Pros: More story than a Final Fantasy game
Traveling can be fun with the monster hunts or item hunting.
By the endgame you will be swimming in Sepith.
Cons: Hardly any FMV's (I had to complain about something)
