I am a huge fan of Fire Emblem and Advance Wars style of gameplay. A title called Mecho Wars made it playable on iOS and a few years ago got a upgrade before being Sony exclusive. The tacticle game was fun and challenging while it's partner Pocket God was a mobile craze which spun comic books and more games on top of the massive upgrades it kept getting. Now it's Desert Ashes Vs Pocket God. How vicious can it be?
If you played Advance Wars you should feel right at home minus a few tweaks here and there it is pretty much the same style. You have multiple troops each with good and bad so you don't want your basic troop going against a tank of a beast because instant loss. There is day and night cycles though nothing happens terrain wise that I saw. There are three modes of play which is Campaign, Skirmish and Multiplayer. Campaign has a nice little story about how it came about but for the life of me couldn't complete. This game has unforgiving levels of play since mostly it works NOT in your favor at anytime.
I found myself losing in the story mode way too much and AW was alot tougher but stratgey wise. If you think you can have a massive army think again. As soon as you get a good group, the enemy is five steps ahead and destroyed most of your team and mostly due to the terrian was better suited for them. Skirmish is more easier to manage and enjoy though it can be hard, it works neutral for both sides.
There is alot of gaming here to be had with the 3 modes but if it is your first time with this style, skip it and try Desert Ashes first. If you are a master at the style then prepare to be challenged. I'm glad both sides are getting more notice and hopefully can come back to vita in the future.
Score 7.5 out of 10
Pros: Lots of gameplay and hours
Skirmish is fun and can play both sides
The amount of detail in the fights.
Cons: Unforgiving diffculty
Terrian seems to favor the other team
