Nintendo has Smash Brothers and Sony has Playstation All Stars and another title that span a sequel called Dissidia 012 Duodecim a who's who of Final Fantasy heroes and villians. Want to have Cloud face off against Squall? Well you can but how is it? Well....
Story: This could be labeled has fan fiction a best like FFIV:The After Years but I can't even start to describe the story because none of it makes sense though there is a few nods to the respectable character's title like Squall and a feather item and areas where you fight in but after that it just gets crazy. There is two gods, one being Cosmos the other Chaos who have been in this war that goes on and on. Your characters have to break that cycle and that is the easiest way to sum it up. Filled with side stories and some CG scenes here and there but it is very confusing.
Gameplay: The best part...well mostly. You do ground and air comba but sometimes bad camera angles kill the pace. You have two ways of fighting: bravery attacks and HP attacks. Bravery builds up power and once a character loses power, he gets a break and the stage barvery goes to the other fighter. HP attacks are the only way to hurt a fighter. You can have assist characters like Aries if you got the prolouge or any other fighter to help out. Summons also happen which makes or breaks a battle. You have auto versions and ones you can summon yourself. How to get those is from story for a KP a currency in the game which can take forever to get and some cost a lot. Your characters level up and learn new attacks but you can only equip to your CP limit.
There is also skills you can equip and master like RPG mode where they move around by themselves and you just select commands. Also each character has an EX mode which after triggering an HP attack gets you a short limit for their limit break or get attacked and go for EX revenge which freezes the enemy for a short period of time.
Presentation: The game is huge which features 3 story modes, one on one battles and team battles among others. You also have a PP shop which you buy characters, costumes and other items. You can rewatch movies, learn about characters or fight ghost cards for hard to get items. The game lets you know you have a Final Fantasy game with its constant music from past games and it is one of the best fighters on Playstation overall.
Sound: Voice work is really great and they sound like they should with Kefka being a psycho madman hell bent on destruction and Squall...well being Squall. Music as I said is very good though wish vita players could get DLC from the game but you get alot without it but would have been nice.
Last comments: Overall a great fighting game that has a minor issue which is air combat and bad camera angles but each character is their own and there is no cookie cutting it either. A huge game for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Score 9.5 out of 10
