Final Fantasy has been a classic legend and one that has always broke the save the queen or world for over a decade now. After the sci-finess of 7&8, 9brings a more classic style where classes mattered back to the front lines. You play as Zidane who is one of the members of a group of theives named Tantalus whos goal is to get the princess. The story has its twist and turns as you expect but the theme is one of the best ones to date:
Finding your place among the world and a place to call home.
The characters are likeable and even realistic not to mention just awesome (how come Vivi wasn't in Dissidia)? Another great aspect of the game is the ATE or Active Time Events which sheds more story on characters or just a funny scene to show though some aren't optional. When I said class matters I mean Zidane is a theif and Steiner is a knight and so forth which wasn't seen like that since 3 or 4. 8 got alot of hate because story close to the end and Squall was a character you wanted to punch but 9 is both great with those.
Gameplay wise there is a 4 party team and limit breaks do return though I prefer 8's way of doing it as the meter can be your friend or enemy depending if your saving it for a boss. Abilites are learned or mastered if you want to keep them without what weapon or other item that skill is attached to. Attaching abilites require points which you get 1 after each level up so plenty to use though some are useless later on.
Sidequest are a plenty just in 12 since FF9 was the last PS1 title and one that is still one of the better ones (sorry Lighting). You have Hot Or Cold with the Chocobo, collecting coins, a sucky card game (yes 8 was better) and chocographs that if you find one, gives you weapons and other items and there is alot to collect. The game is roughly 40 hours story but with sidequest that brings it to about 60 hours. Though Chocobo raising is not in here and was greatly missed from 7.
The world is huge and towns look great and seem pretty busy and always have something to see. Airships are in this and you won't have just one either and each can be fully explored. The last hurrah is a great one not to be missed by any generation.
Score 10 out of 10
Pros: Great story and pacing
Enjoyable characters
Sidequest galore
Cons: Bad card game.
