Well Vita users finally get a Tales game after many users wanted a Westeren launch of Tales Of Hearts which is the most popular Tales game on a handheld but how is it and is it worth a purchase?
You are Kor in the town of Seaville who becomes a Soma user. These users help people with despair and while the begining is very slow, the pacing does go full circle midway through the game. You and your merry crew of a painter, robot, brother and sister and many more go out on a journey to fix a core which are feelings that have been shattered through out the world and find them. You could say the theme is finding someone's self which is common in Tales but they handle it slightly different in Hearts R.
The R is for remaster which does a good job of being. Though a few hiccups and boring music both which are uncommon for a Tales game do. For instance the intro which is a ratio of 4:3 instead of widescreen is a weird choice and a new character who doesn't have a backstory till the end of the game is a head scratcher. Begining story is strongly changed as is the battles. The DS version had three characters in battle which has changed to 4. Not a bad choice and the graphics look great though not amazing, it does offer some nice scenery to marvel at.
Music as I said before is the worst part. It is very forgettable and voice acting is not english but that part Vita users are use to with RPGs. Upgrading has changed as well with points given to characters when leveled up instead of certain items or amount of. That part also is great seeing you can make a character have a play style that fits you. Weapons and skills are obtained through the soma build and some are better than others.
Sidequest are a plenty and you can miss out on them and skits which have become a staple in the franchise and they feel like a Tales game. Is this worth a purchase though? I say yes if you only own a Vita. If not then just no it's just an ok title. Lengthy but forgettable sadly. What it does right is great but it also takes a few back steps and stumbles as well.
Score 7.5 out of 10
Pros: Tales on Vita
Good cast of characters
Sidequest galore
Cons: Forgettable story and music
Bad pacing
Kor really?
