Ok I am a huge FF fan and have been since the first. Now that we got that out the way: How the hell can X be labeled as "one of the best RPGs" after two hours of story? Let alone while people wanted to punch Squall out for being a dick, you want to punch Tidus, who looks like Meg Ryan so bad it hurts. When not whining about his daddy issues, he is telling people he's from Zanerkand which to every single character he meets says: DON'T SAY WHERE YOU ARE FROM.
Next thing to address is the "boss" one who is so clearly IS the boss but they don't know it till it's too late. Did he need scary music or a big thunder clap sound with dun dun dunnnnnn music? Did anyone like the sphere grid? I liked the board in 12 and X2 has a great set up though easily can be broken but still it's good.
Ok well now that is out the way, the game looks good from the added facial expressions and thank god because the monkey scene in X2 was creepy thanks to creepy Riku. Lots of detail was added though it still looks like LuLu still has a tattoo around her neck (but hey they did add jiggle mechanics). X does do some good things but it's mostly in the style of FF13 with a point A to B system and sidequest don't open up till midway through the game.
I like the overdrive system and the styles you can unlock to help you in battle and the magic effects looks great as do the CG which I wish they added a option to watch all the CG because some were awesome even today they hold up. Now comes a sad part: my thoughts of FFX2.
This was so different that long time fans were questioning the whole game and the choice of no summons. The opening J-POP scene was ok but didn't explain how this was a sequel and the FFX added movie would have made a better opening. It also did way too much back then and now way too much even now thanks to last mission, a rogue-like added story explaining what happened after X-2.
It does a good job with it and the story is neat but if you never played this style of game, you are in trouble. At one point you can get kicked out of the tower ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE 1ST FLOOR. You can get your stuff back in a way but who ever thought of this was just evil. It also has more sidequest than even 12. Here is a list of some:
Sphere searching
Chocobo breeding
The creature creator
Cactur searching
That is just a little and can add 30+ hours to the 20+ hour story. Not bad but feels like way too much with little explanation of what and why. The battle system is good and quick but casting magic just sucks. You select magic, wait for it to charge then another waiting game to use. I think instead of a "sequel"this was more a fan service game. FF12-2 was a better sequel and less fan service.
You may think I hate the game which I don't....I just think this has the worst story since FF8 went to space. Oh and in X-2 Wakka is a dad. Yea take a minute with that story bit. While better than Tidus in every sense of character, it doesn't mean much. When it was on PS2 the game had great places and visuals. On Vita that still remains true today. It is a fest for the eyes and if you got the full time for 100% for X-2 though for something no one wanted at all.
Score 8 Out Of 10
Pros: A great remaster with added content
The faces look better
It's a FF in your pocket.
Cons: The faces are changed while clothing not so much.
Last Mission
Tidus
