Ok first off i'm not a fan of One Piece as in watched every episode or read all the manga. Second after my runnings with Dronball Z vita game, I wasn't expecting too much and ready to rage delete the game. I was surprised to find something very fun and very entertaining in the game.
Now you can play as any of the Straw Hat gang but it does center around Luffy who after eating the gum gum fruit, has turned into a rubbery character. The story is new and not centered around any of the saga which may make fans happy but make newcomers confused. You arrive at a village named Transtown and not a minute after everyone but you and a mysterious new character are left and the search begins.
Now without spoling anything the story is neat and centered around episodes in a level. Story may be short but there is alot of game here. First you have sidequest with different difficulty ranges, a whole different game mode that you unlock things in and the small but vast open world hub. With everything you can do in the hub like increase stats by eating food or play minigames, you make call it another part of the game as well.
The graphics look amazing and yes the game does slow down a bit but mostly when doing the spcial moves so that is very good. I do wonder why anime games love to keep using the same sucky camera style which works somewhat though. If you are Luffy and teaming up with Whitebeard, it can be hard to see or focus because he is huge and the camera just loves being a pain. Voice work is of course not in english but then again I never seen a english dubbed One Piece so it doesn't bother me as much.
The gameplay is a beat em up with sorta a Monster Hunter feel to it mostly the boss fights. Some fights are pretty epic and does the fan service spot on to a T. Overall the game is just pretty great to play and might even make a few new fans.
Score: 8.5 out of 10
Pros: Great graphics
Lots of characters to play as
Each one is also different
Cons: Camera is bad
Might confuse newcomers
