Day Of The Tentacle is a classic from LucasArts company and sequel to Maniac Mansion. When a remastered version was announced during Playstation Experience, the crowd went crazy still coming off Grim Fandango Remastered. Tim Schafer also said Full Throttle Remastered was happening but that comes out in 2017. Well after playing DOTT for the first time I can say this is a masterpiece and one of the best P&C games I played even though I only played a small few. The game features commentary with the team and original and remastered graphics by a simple select button and also an option for the original P&Cgameplay options with pull and others at the bottom of the screen or you could use what is known as the wheel.
The game stars Bernard, Hoagie,Laverne and even Dr Fred's crazy family from Maniac Mansion which if you didn't know IS in the game but you got to find it. The music has been remastered and sounds great and the story is out of this world well really it is with Bernard and friends having to travel back in time (which goes oh so well) to stop the purple tentacle from taking over tue world. The neat aspect of the game is what ever you do in the past or present affects the future and vice versa. DOTT is pretty easy puzzle wise minus one puzzle that stumped me for awhile because it involved using a VHS tape and I didn't know a certain option but the rest is more try and see since you can't lose.
Maniac Mansion is a game where you can lose and puzzles were pretty hardcore back in the day needing the instruction book with the much needed hint or code needed to continue but it does hold up well. There wasn't music in games like there is now back in the 80's PC days with DOS I imagaine so minus the intro music and few puzzles, the music is not there. This doesn't hold Maniac Mansion back at all in fact it makes you love the old school style even more. You might want to give Mansion a shot before jumping too deep into DOTT since it does tell you in lines what happened in MM here and there plus if you want to experience how adventure games were back then.
The cast is well acted and well written and not everything is easy to see. If you want all the trophies you will have to work for it as I only got 67% and there are still plenty to earn and most require you to do something you wouldn't think to do after all this is a Tim Schafer game. While Grimm was a noire story and featured the noire style, DOTT Remastered has the look and style with the remastered version to be a 90's cartoon and the intro alone lets us know that. If you like P&C games or want to play one for the first time you can't go wrong with Day Of The Tentacle.
Score: 10 Out Of 10
+ It's a LucasArts adventure game
Plays smooth and has quick loading
Features Maniac Mansion in the game
Lots of dialog and nods to previous LucasArts games.
- Can't think of any bad things with the game.
