We can mostly say Geomtry Wars was our first go at dual stick shooting and there has been a good bit of games out since then and for the most part pretty decent or just boring with nothing there. Tachyon Project is as close as to GW as you want while still being it's own thing and for the most part pretty good and the amount of ship changes is a nice touch. The game's graphics took a good sized hit to the point that if the title and cutscenes weren't there, it would seem to be a different game. The issues to me hold the game back from being enjoyable at least on vita and I think I should start with that.
The screen isn't as far back as it should be and some flying enemies can hit you and you won't have time to dodge them. The font is way too small to want to read the story and cutscenes seem blurry on vita. The grid colors seem really strange since the other systems it was black and this seems trippy like and takes away from the action. That is the issues I have with the game and Doesn't mean I hate it, it just means I wish we could have had the same game style as the other systems. The music sort of fits the game though it seems to want to through you off more than be something to enjoy or listen to but it's there.
Now to the good of the game: There is a pretty good weapon selection with challenge maps letting you get a feel for it before you unlock it to use in the main game. Enemies have varity and there is a pretty good selection of them to take down some with the nods to the GW series. The game is fast and fluid at I assume is at least high 30's close to 40 fps which is great and the drops aren't too bad. The challenge maps are as the name says challenging with lots of gameplay choices like stealth which goes great with the game mostly and could be a fun highscore chaser. It may not be GW but it comes in second with what else the vita offers in space dual stick shooters as of late and the size is not that huge so no worry about making room for the vita card.
You also can have choices for defense with increased health or faster speed and each one is useful but you can only pick two. The secondary weapons are also pretty good and have unlimited use but have to recharge which is pretty quick. Overall this is a soild DSS held back with a few problems that may or may not get addressed with patches but at least we have another DSS on vita and I would suggest getting the title if you like the genre.
Score 7.0 Out Of 10
+ Dual stick shooter on vita
Fluid on the vita
Lots of levels
Good amount of weapons and defense to earn
- Can't be zoomed out
Grid colors seems to hinder the experience
