GTA like games have been big no matter the device or console it gets put on which is the case with Retro City Rampage DX and the amount of consoles it was put on should have had it in the record books if it wasn't already. You play as a character named who else? Player. You're working for The Jester when out of nowhere, a phonebooth appears and you arrive to be knows as "The Hero" and the booth being destroyed your helper named Doc Choc has listed the items he needs and it is your goal to find them. If you couldn't tell already, the game is a parody and a big one in fact with nods to Duck Hunter, Bat-Man TV show and millions of other game and show icons to the point you wonder who will pop up next.
Controls are like the old GTA titles on Playstation one and GBA but can also be changed just like the screen filter and zoom function so there is alot of control to play the way you want to. The graphics can be called NES which it makes me wonder if this was on NES back in the day, how would it do? The soundtrack is all 8-bit as well and is pretty soild with the throwback style. You do have side missions and mini games on top of the 60+ story missions in the game and they offer a great challenge for the story breaks here and there and also introduce other game characters like Meatboy. The game was digital but the developer Vblank made it physical for limted editions and even made it on floppy disc so you have tons of ways to play DX.
The game loads really quick with no bugs that can hinder game experience and offers a wide amount of weapons and cars to drive which makes this a really fun game to play and a added plus with all the humor that doesn't grow stale and keeps the pace going. If you like GTA or open world games then you should check out Retro City Rampage DX a huge upgrade from the original version. The game is a really good fit for vita and other handheld consoles and mobile devices.
