Metroidvania titles have always been a big hitand Drinkbox's Guacamelee is no exception. With it adds a Mexican ton and style to the mix that flows so easy and so rewarding. The music is worth a listen alone and while it can be tough, the rewards are high. There is alot to explore and see throughout the title and the game's art is amazing to see for instance when you unlock a skill to visit the land of the living and of the dead and able to jump back andforth between the two is a treat. Controls are pretty easy to get use to but hard to master and one area in the game throws it all at you forcing you to use all that you got to get through it.
You play as Juan Aguacate and the demon known as Carlos Calaca has taken the president's daughter and killed you forcing you find a mask and be a luchador but one who devlopes powers by a legendary trainer who is a goat as a disguise. Yes it's crazy but also alot of fun with the journey of Juan who fights skeletons to huge beast and it only gets harder as the game goes on. While you gain skills so does the enemies or better yet defense matching the color of a skill you earned. For instance if the skill has a red outline and that is the enemy's sheild color, you use that skill and so forth. It can be hard to master but worth it in the long run as the boss fights are very fun to witness and challenging. The humor fits the game and you learn the backstory of some of them by a cutscene or by other characters and it makes them have a purpose instead of just added in to beat just to progress.
There is no bugs or issues with the game and it plays really well on the Vita but it does make me sad that the other version on PS3 is not on vita but there is alot of game here for the price and very worth picking up. Between sidequest, secrets and the story you have no reason not to. Skills to buy as well as costumes that bring a plus and minus factor into the mix makes it even challenging. Loading is quick and the level layouts are anywhere from small to huge with lots of detail.
Score: 9 out of 10
